In 2016, Anthology Architecture and Design Festival began with over 2000 guests and 65 leading built environment practitioners from seven countries. Since then, the three-day forum about architecture and design has been consistently growing in participants, speakers, lectures and panel discussions. Heading into its fifth year, the Anthology Architecture and Design Festival is a platform that seeks to launch an inquiry into the basis of architecture and how it is adapting to our changing world. What, why and how do we think of architecture? Each year we have explored various themes such as narratives, context and intent, social architecture, and impact. This year’s theme, “Think Architecture,” is an invitation to join us as we explore and ponder the ideals and frameworks that shape the structures that we build to house our needs and desires. It seeks to refocus our efforts on architecture itself and implores its participants to think about architecture in order to improve our understanding and grow awareness about our practice.
With a projected audience of 6000 guests, Anthology Architecture and Design Festival 2020 will take place in Fort Santiago, Intramuros in Manila, Philippines on the 7th to the 9th of February 2020.The festival brings together key figures and movers into one highly publicised event. In previous years, prominent figures including Kai Uwe Bergman of Bjarke Ingels Group, Roland Schnizer of Foster + Partners, Michael Kwok of Arup Group Limited, Dawveed Scully of Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), Chris Bosse of Laboratory for Visionary Architecture (LAVA), Takaharu Tezuka of Tezuka Architects, Ben Duckworth of HASSELL, Bong Recio of RCHITECTS, Inc., William Ti, Jr. of WTA Architecture and Design Studio, Dominic Galicia of DGA, Tobias Guggenheimer of SoFA, Daniel Terence Yu of VisionArch, Cathy Saldana of ArcoGroup Inc., John Batten of Arcadis, Felino Palafox of Palafox Associates, Ivy and Cynthia Almario of Atelier Almario as well as World Architecture Festival 2018 winners Alexander Furunes, Sudarshan Khadka Jr. of Project Tagpuro, and Jorge Yulo of Jorge Yulo Associates among others. In 2020, we hope to extend the reach of our passion project in order to provide the architecture community with exposure to new and fresh ideas on design thinking from some of the most reputable architects across the globe.
Architecture is a platform for collaboration and discovery – a commonality from which ideas can be distilled and opportunities can be found. This festival acts as a space from which we can share our experiences and address our questions together. It is a place where we can discuss and define the moment and propose our answers for the built environment.
The world is changing from a place to a community to an ever-growing organism that is only starting to learn what it means to be one. As our world starts becoming more layered and nuanced, we should find new approaches that can define our changing relationships with the physical world.
At Anthology Festival 2020 we will be joined by Wong Mum Summ of WOHA, Benjee Mendoza of BAADStudio, Chatpong Chuenrudeemol of CHATarchitects, Billy Yen of MRT Design, Rica Plaza of Plaza and Partners, and more key figures in architecture around the globe. Anthology brings together the best and the brightest to Think Architecture. It is an annual gathering that creates a centrality from which we can reach out to the wider public. Architecture is uniquely suited to embrace opportunities and act upon ideas that can help build a better place for all.
